Jeff Church 2003 Case

To start off, here’s the Court Listener copy of the docket, with the caveat that a large part of the docket is not available online because they were documents generated before the federal courts started digitizing court records.

I had put in the request to have the court record transferred from storage in Seattle to Portland, where I could view it in person, but not make any videos, photos or recordings of the documents. I was able to request copies of certain filings, some of which had to go through additional approval before I could pay for the copies. So as a result, I didn’t request copies of the whole file, only the items that had biggest impact on the narrative of his conviction.

Reminder: this case is dealing with attempts to purchase videos of children in inappropriate situations, and text that details what Mr. Church believed he was buying. Reader discretion is advised.

  • ECF 3 – Church is involved in a USPS sting from PA about selling CP through the mail, buys several videos that he is explicitly told what would be on them (and were very much illegal to possess in the US and any nation I know), particularly starting on page 9
  • ECF 10 – Search warrant showing that he was filmed with the flourescent dye that they put inside the bait package, meaning he opened the package that he expected to have CP in it.
  • ECF 11 – Another search warrant for his home, where a lot of items were siezed that may have been evidence of other illegal acts. From my understanding they were not forensically examined to where we have proof if any of it was ‘dirty’ or not. (More on that at ECF 27)
  • ECF 15 – A pretrial release order that specifically mentioned no internet access allowed as well as no posession of porn at all, adult or otherwise (the standard ‘obey all laws’ provision would have been relevant to the fraud allegations in ECF 55)
  • ECF 27 – The order reversing the search warrant from ECF 10 and 11 as it wasn’t filed properly with the court (hence why the only charge he pled to being the package he got from the mailbox store.
  • ECF 51/55 – On the publicly scanned docket, ECF 51 shows him pleading guilty to receipt of child pornography, ECF 55 had him alleged doing fraud by taking lines of credit out under his ex wife’s name.

Just as a reminder, this is the story that we were working on when Twitter completely purged my entire RaindropWorkPDX account, no violation, no suspension, no warning, and when going through the help site to get support for my account, was told that I had full control and there was nothing wrong with it.

Someone buried the story for daring to post it on that particular site. So if this gets re-shared after this, I can’t take responsibility for what happens to your account.
